Day Program
1 Meeting with guide at the lobby of your hotel, start WALKING Khiva city tour inside Ichan Qala fortress (UNESCO World Heritage). It's also called an open-air museum. Places to visit:
  • Kunya-Ark Citadel (XVIII c.): it's often called "a fortress inside a fortress" because it's fenced off from Ichan Qala by a high wall. There was a khan's chancery, mosque, mint inside the Ark;
  • Tash-Khovli Palace (XIX c.): is beautifully decorated and consists of 3 courtyards: a court hall, a guest room and a harem;
  • Mukhammad Aminkhan Madrasah (XIX c.): is considered the largest madrassah not only in Khiva but also in the whole of Central Asia (designed for 260 students);
  • Mukhammad Rahimkhan Madrasah (XVIII c.): an unique example of the culture and architecture of that time. The madrasah consists of a training unit, a rich library as well as a winter and summer mosque;
  • Kalta-Minor Minaret (XIX c.): according to the plan the minaret had to grow up to 70 meters but it wasn't completed. Nevertheless, the monument is impressive by its 29 meters;
  • Juma Mosque (X c): a unique monument of ancient Khiva. The mosque has no entrance portals, arches and classical domed coverings. It looks modest while its roof rests on 213 wooden columns;
  • Islam-Khoja Minaret (XX c.): is the main symbol of Khiva. The minaret is narrowed upwards that is the earliest examples of the architecture of the XIV century.
